The very first Metis People of Canada probably were born in 1608. The fathers of the first Metis were Frenchmen who came to Canada with the explorer Champlain, when the province we now call Quebec was founded. The mothers of the first Metis were Indian women who were members of the Huron and Algonquin tribes. Because of this
fact we can say that the history of the Metis nation is as old as the history of Canada.
